Unmistakable. Combination of yellowish legs, large size and straight black bill are diagnostic within the Galapagos.
Description
Non-breeding birds have long, fairly straight black bill, grey-brown upperparts with a white eye-brow, whitish underparts with variable dark brown barring and yellowish legs. Some birds may have buffy underparts from remnant breeding plumage.
Galapagos Distribution
Recorded throughout the main archipelago.
Global Distribution
Breeds in the lower North American Arctic and overwinters on coastlines of southern North America and the Carribean to northern South America.
Status in the Galapagos
Uncommon non-breeding migrant recorded in all months of the year, but most common from August to April.
