Elliot's Storm-petrel

Identification

Reletively narrow white rump band and lack of white on belly distinguishes it from the two other regularly recorded storm petrels in the galapagos.

Description

An overall black-brown storm-petrel with a narrow white band across its rump and extending partially onto its undertail. It has a square-ended tail with a very shallow notch in it. In flight, legs do not extend behind tail. Sexes alike. Juvenile similar to adults.

Galapagos Distribution

Breeds on a number of small islets throughout the archipelago, but may be recorded anywhere in the marine reserve.

Global Distribution

A large distribution, ranging across most of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans between temperate lattitudes.

Status in the Galapagos

Common breeding visitor, recorded throughout the year.
