Not likely to be confused with any other Galapagos species. Significantly larger than Semipalmated Plover.
Description
A large, thick set plover with a large black bill and blackish legs and feet.In non-breeding plumage, adult has grey-brown upperparts with white spots, a streaked, grey-brown breast and white underparts. In flight, black ‘armpits’ are vissible. Sexes indistinguishable in non-breeding plumage.
Galapagos Distribution
Found on shorelines throughout the main archipelago, often on those with an extensive beach.
Global Distribution
A breeding visitor to the arctic, overwintering across most of the world’s shorelines.
Status in the Galapagos
Uncommon non-breeding visitor, recorded throughout the year, but most common during the northern winter.
