Identification

Adults are distinguished from much smaller mature white morph Red-footed Boobies through their dull green (not red) feet and orange (not pale blue) bills. Solid brown and white coloration of juvenile is distintive within the Galapagos.

Description

he largest of the three booby species in the Galapagos. Adults are all white with black flight feathers, a black tail, a orange bill with a black base and adjacent facial skin, yellow eyes and olive green legs and feet. Sexes similar. Juveniles have dark brown upperparts, head, neck and breast, white underparts, greyish legs and feet and a yellowish green bill.

Galapagos Distribution

Found throughout the Galapagos Marine Reserve. Breeds throughout the archipelago.

Global Distribution

Ocurs across a large portion of the east Pacific, from N Peru to the entrance to the Gulf of California.

Status in the Galapagos

Common resident.
