Identification
Easily distinguished from Barn Owl by dark brown and buff coloration and bright yellow eyes.
Description
A round-headed owl with dark brown upperparts, buff underparts and bright yellow eyes. Upperparts are covered in buff markings and underparts in bold dark brown streaks. Females significantly larger than males, but otherwise sexes are alike.
Galapagos Distribution
Found throughout the main archipelago, usually on larger islands.
Global Distribution
Widespread breeding isitor to Northern hemisphere, overwintering in S Europe, S Asia, N Africa and S North America. Resident populations in the Carribean and S and N South America.
Status in the Galapagos
Uncommon resident.
