Wandering Tattler

Identification

Distinguished from smalled non-breeding Wandering Tattler by grey, not yellow, legs and feet and pied wing pattern.

Description

A large grey to greyish brown wader with a long dark grey bill and grey legs and feet. Upperparts and breast of non-breeding adult gryish brown and remaining underparts and rump white. In flight, conspicuous pied wing patern is visible.

Galapagos Distribution

Found on shorelines, usually beaches, throughout the main archipelago.

Global Distribution

A breeding visitor to north USA and south Canada, overwintering on both coasts of the USA south to the Caribbean and northern and western South America.

Status in the Galapagos

Uncommon non-breeding visitor. Recorded during most months of the year, but most common between October and May.
